“This project embodies the concept of social empowerment starting with the Department of Interior Design and Fashion Studies. The beginning purpose of this department at Kansas State came from wanting to empower women to have the skills and education to provide for themselves and their families. Since the beginnings of IDFS, there have been many examples of women’s empowerment throughout history that have redesigned the traditional role of a woman and given them much more purpose than just within the home. Presently, women hold positions of great power, they are being recognized for work in typically male-dominated fields and are empowered to achieve their goals. Lady Gaga has long been a symbolic figure of empowerment for many people. In 2012 she founded an organization called Born This Way to empower youth by promoting kindness and anti-bullying campaigns. Additionally, Lady Gaga has also spoken publicly several times about her support for the LGBTQ community. Overall, this project represents her boldness and ability to empower and inspire the masses to be authentically themselves.”
