Meta Gala Board 2020: Forgotten Golden Hour

When coming across projects designed for the apparel and textile industry, I have seen that a diverse range of women has gone silenced through the display of garments. This project is meant for empowerment for those who felt that they were misrepresented in the Apparel and Textile Industry. I have often felt uncomfortable and not confident in who I am and the way I may look to others. Although when I designed this board for the Met Gala, I decided to speak up and create more diverse thoughts and actions. For this board, one can see that no matter what background or fears that one has faced in our nation, they still deserve to be seen. Throughout this board, I used colors of gold, white and brown to represent not only royalty but the radiance that we often shine African American women away from. In the past and even now those with darker skin are left out and humiliated for being who they are. This board is meant to empower darker-skinned women who were often shut out of our industry. It is to give them a voice and to acknowledge that as a strong colored woman they still deserve to be treated with the utmost respect. If empowerment is to create a sense of confidence in oneself, I believe that this board has achieved that increasing comfort and joy for being oneself.
